They are on the ground staring at you. Still alive. Still working. Pupils dilated. Reach your fingers out and switch on the lights. Watch the pupils of your eyes shrink. They shrink at different rates. Something is off.
Pick up your eyeballs using your thumb and forefinger. Can you do it without squeezing or dropping? Probably not. The pressure burns but you have no choice. You must pop them back into your eyes. You’re squeezing too hard. Now you’ve dropped them.
They are rolling along the floor and it is nauseating to watch the world go by so quickly. If they were in your body they would never be able to move this quickly. Get your body on the ground. Then maybe you can catch them. Feel all of the weight of the earth pushing against you and try to know you are here. Right here. All of you.
They are rolling back to you leaving a trail along the wood floor like a slug. Put your earballs back in the socket. Earballs? Eyeballs. Maybe they are earballs now. Whatever they are, get them back in your head. Get your fingers back in your ears because the buzzing sound of the refrigerator is so loud. Imagine placing little fans in your ears that break up the soundwaves, giving you a moment of relief.
