KIDNAPPING MOM
feature
Semi-finalist in the Middlebury Script Lab.
In this dark family comedy, an earth-mother escapes from the hospital right before a massive storm, an act that lures her adult daughters back to their rural home where they must embrace their lost wild side or put her messy house in order. Decisions around ball jars, pepper grinders, cheap shampoo for old cashmere sweaters, the optimal time for dinner, how often the toilette should be flushed in a power outage, and if spiders should be vacuumed up or let be, reveal who they have become, who they once were, and if they can reconcile the two.
GHOST BIRDS
feature
Semi-finalist in The Launch.
In the Nevada desert, a disconnected drone soldier develops a friendship with a parrot when it arrives on his porch in a package without a return address. Convinced the package is from a recent strike he committed in Afghanistan, he tries to send the parrot back, only to have it repeatedly returned. Reality and fiction blur in this nonlinear narrative. The story and characters are fictional; the cockpit dialogue is from actual drone strikes.
